John Lamont Natural Son to Mr James Lamont Esq of Knockdow & isobel Clerk daughter to Duncan Clerk in Gortainamiaig Born the 1st day of Februrary and baprised the 3rd day of Februray at Inverchaolain - Duncan Clerk being Sponsor.

This apparently was a birth out of wedlock, no marriage found. a few years latter James marries and has 15 children

sailed for Trinidad in 1801-1802 at about 20 years of age
after serving an apprenticship as overseer and manager soon set up as a planter on his own account. In 1809 he bought, along with a friend, the sugar estate of Cedar Grove in the quater of South Naparima and the south-west of the island, which expanded to 360 acres and had on it over 100 slaves. For a while he seems to have fallen out of touch with home, but he was truly not fotgotten. in 1816 he recieved a letter from Alexander

Next year he was joined by his half-brother Boyden, who came out to learn the business and remained all his life
In 1829 he aquired La Grenade and a few years later the distant River & Cascade estates in Diego Martin. His brother Boyden died in 1837 and left in his will his estate

Died 1850 in Diego Martin and is buried next to his brother Boyden
